There is an upcoming exhibit at the Heritage Center on the campus of CU Boulder. Join us for the opening celebration!
From the Heritage Center website.
“Boulder photographer Joseph Bevier Sturtevant was a local legend from the time of his arrival in Boulder in 1875 to his death in 1910. So were his stories.
The Heritage Center’s exhibit delves into Sturtevant’s life, his painting career, his photography and the tall tales he told while Chautauqua’s official photographer. Those stories painted a picture of a romantic Wild West in which “Rocky Mountain Joe” was the star of the show.
The exhibit includes photographs taken by Sturtevant, displays of painting tools, cameras and photography equipment similar to those that Sturtevant would have used during the time period. The exhibit also explores fact from fiction in Sturtevant’s past and the incredible photographic legacy he left for understanding Boulder’s history.
The exhibit is open to the public and admission to the Heritage Center is free. The museum is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., but closed on all holidays observed by the university.”
