The Boulder Genealogical Society published the records of approximately 6500 people buried in Columbia Cemetery (also called Pioneer, Masonic, City, Park, Boulder, Old) in Jan 1998. Our goals were: to locate everyone buried in Columbia Cemetery, to compile biographical information about each person, to find the purchasers of each lot, and to discover descendants of the deceased. We researched many sources including Columbia Cemetery ledger books at Carnegie Library For Local History, records of Howe and Crist Mortuaries, Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's records, censuses of Boulder County, Estate Files of Boulder County, obituaries, The Boulder Daily Camera newspaper files, published Boulder County, Colorado histories, family histories and more. All sources are given with each person.
This index is an alphabetical list of the burials in Columbia Cemetery along with the birth date (or age) and the death date (month-day-year) and the Section and Lot in which that person is buried. The first person buried in the cemetery, Anna Eggleston, is in green. Names in blue are of those who died before Anna Eggleston but were buried here after Anna; their remains were moved to Columbia from another cemetery. Included in the books and this index are: 173 people who were buried in this cemetery but have been removed to other cemeteries (they are in red); 52 people of whom we know only the names found on the markers or in the cemetery books but have not death dates because either they are not dead yet or have died but are buried elsewhere; and 56 people whose remains at death first went to the University of Colorado Medical School and later were buried in Columbia "in boxes." A few listed here may not be in Columbia but are thought to be for many reasons.
If you know of any corrections or additions, please notify Mary McRoberts at the address above with your name, relation to the deceased and source of your information. The research on these burials will continue and additional information will be added to the book in future updates.
