Autosomal DNA is the most popular DNA used in genealogy. In this presentation, I plan to describe both the biological and genealogical traits of autosomal DNA, then to show both the value and limitations of tools that can be used, such as Ancestry thrulines and Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) chromosome browser. A case study of my NH Graham family will be used to demonstrate these principles.

Dorothy has been a genealogical researcher, teacher, lecturer and writer for more than seventeen years. She is a member of NEHGS, WISE, Boulder Genealogical Society & the Daughters of the American Revolution. She holds both BS & MS degrees in in Nutritional Biology from the Univ. of California and has taught for more than 3o years at Community College. She is also a principal researcher and manager of the Coltrain Surname project at FTDNA.

In early America, land was inexpensive and even those of humble circumstances could be landowners. These records used to be buried in the courthouse, but are now becoming more accessible as they go online. You will find land records to be rich in family history. As property was bought and sold, family relationships, locations and personal information were revealed in the documents created.

Precious family photos deserve to be preserved in their original form. The originals have details that will be lost in copies. Therefore, they ought to be preserved and digital copies displayed on walls or in scrapbooks.

Roger Dudley is a Denver native born to a couple who met via the mail during World War II. He began doing genealogical research in 1975 and has been hopelessly addicted ever since.
He conceived of a book soon after starting to do research and published In Their Time first in 1995 and again in 2012 in a much-expanded version with space for entering family dates and events going back to the year 1000.
He worked in the archives and on the Reference desk in the Western History and Genealogy Department of the Denver Public Library from 2006 to 2019.
In addition to the book intended for every genealogist he also wrote a history of the Norwegian side of his family. Both parents of his paternal grandmother were born in Norway and came to the US in 1868 and 1872 and met in Iowa where their parents settled. They married and started their family in Iowa before moving to Minnesota where the rest of their ten children were born. They moved to Colorado in 1909 and homesteaded in eastern Colorado where many descendants still live.
